Lecture Diary:

In today's lesson, we had the chance to use 360 cameras and really experiment with them. We were allowed to record anything we wanted, as long as we focused on experimenting with the cameras and the software. This made the lesson both fun and educational, as we got to try out the technology firsthand. I’ve always been interested in 360 cameras, so this lesson was something I was excited about. I’ve often wondered how they work, especially after watching 360 videos and being curious about how they are created, edited, and used in media.

It was great to finally get a deeper understanding of how 360 cameras function. We learned how they capture footage and how that footage is put together to create an immersive experience. This was something I had always wanted to know more about, and today, I got to explore it up close.

We were also introduced to different ways 360-degree media is used in projects, such as augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). For example, we saw how Instagram filters and VR headsets use 360-degree technology to create interactive experiences. It was really interesting to see how 360 degree media is applied in various fields, and it made me realize just how many possibilities this technology has. Overall, it was a great lesson that inspired me to learn more about 360 cameras and how I can use them in  the future for class and personal projects.

When I first imported one of the video clips I recorded into the app I was a bit lost on how to use it but after watching a few tutorials provided I got it and found out how to properly use the app and really play with it.

I really liked the look of this as  you zoom out, it creates this globe like effect where it's a fish eye lens but also turns into a sphere.

Overall, using 360-degree cameras was an incredibly enjoyable and unique experience. I found it really fun because, unlike traditional cameras, you don’t have to focus on one specific subject. The camera records everything happening around you, which is truly amazing. Instead of being limited to capturing a single subject, you have the freedom to choose and decide what the main focus is during post-production. This flexibility allows you to shape each scene in a way that best suits your vision, which I found to be absolutely fantastic.
