Cybernetic serendipity

Lecture diary:

Cybernetic Serendipity: What is it? If I'm being really honest, I wasn't entirely sure of the answer to this question prior to the lecture. However, I soon discovered that the answer was an exhibition from the late 1960s, which was significantly ahead of its time. I was drawn to a particular piece at the exhibition by Peter Zinovieff; he used algorithms to program a computer to produce music. Since I also compose music, this raised some intriguing questions for me, such as whether the value of human made music would diminish if it could all be done by a computer and whether listeners could even distinguish between artificial intelligence (AI) and human-made music in the modern world.

Fluxus:

In 1962, George Maciunas declared
Fluxus: “anti art, concept art,
automatism, Bruitism, brutalism,
Dada/ism, concretism, Lettrism,
nihilism, indeterminacy—Theatre,
happenings, prose, poetry, philosophy,
plastic arts, music, cinema, dance.”
